Baseball: Betts to miss season-opening series in Tokyo due to illness

Mookie Betts will miss both games of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ season-opening series against the Chicago Cubs starting Tuesday in Tokyo as he continues to recover from an illness. MLB.com, quoting manager Dave Roberts, reported Monday the star shortstop lost “close to 15 pounds” because of the illness, but he is expected to be ready for the team’s first game back in the United States on March 27 against the Detroit Tigers.
