SAN DIEGO — Heads up, Padres. A rather wicked sticky wicket this way comes. It’s the MLB’s Aug. 1 trade deadline, the fateful day you look in the full-length mirror to see if you’re properly dressed — or if your slip is showing, and there isn’t enough time for a wardrobe change before the dance. The aptly-named deadline can ruin seasons, blur the screen, turn off the volume, damage teams for years. When the players you go to see for a week’s pay become flatulence in a Category 5. Gone.
